The Associated Press reports: MADISON, Wis. — The state Department of Veterans Affairs has blocked employees from being able to access an anonymous blog that is often harshly critical of the agency’s top managers ...
I don't think I have a problem with any leadership body's decision to block their employees from being able to access "things which would prevent them from performing their job(s) in the most efficient manner possible." But, they should be consistent about it. Some potentially 'harmful' or otherwise annoying outfits like 'MySpace' or 'YouTube' are blocked due to their allowance of attachments in messages, etc., that carry malicious little things in them ... but they've also blocked ALL WEB-BASED EMAIL sites, as well, for the same reason (whether that site is potentially 'harmful' or not). Yahoo.Com, Hotmail.Com, Gmail.Com ... all of 'em. So, if you maintain a "personal" email account, you can't access it from within the eu.navy.mil universe ... Can you say "ProxyNinja?"
Basically, if you want to surf around ... fine! Just don't do it on company time. It makes just as much sense to me as would the decision by any "boss" or "leadership" to not allow their female employees to come to work naked (it would prevent some employees from performing to their optimum). NOW! You might ask: Oh! Sure! The women can't come to work naked, but what about the MEN?! Well, c'mon people ... be serious here ... everybody knows that men wouldn't even consider that in the first place and that it's the women-folk that are the only ones to worry about! (Sheeesh ...)
